I am Nadine Laschko, an Accredited Practising Dietitian working with people in Melbourne's North.

Dietitians are qualified to assess nutritional needs and assist in the management of a range of different health conditions.

I first came to Dietetics due to my natural interests in food, cooking and physical activity.  The perpetual student, I began my studies by completing Bachelor of Applied Science in Exercise Physiology at RMIT.  I then completed Master of Nutrition & Dietetics at Deakin University.  Following this, I did a Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition and then a Masters of Public Health!  And recently, I became a Sports Dietitian.  Clearly, I love learning everything I can about nutrition.

People generally have a nutritional goal when they come to see me.  People can be referred by their GP, although many people refer themselves.

Sessions begin with a conversation.  I listen carefully and take into consideration your lifestyle, commitments and values.  I am realistic, compassionate and use evidence based best practice.  People often find this a period of self-reflection, a time that can be hard to find in everyday life.

I am passionate about helping people understand food and nutrition.  I work with clients to find easy, practical ways to implement changes.  This might include help with food preparation, cooking, planning, food label reading, clarifying mixed messages from the media and more!  I do not believe in restrictive dieting and I seek to fully understand the changes the person is wishing to make.  In general, we work towards a version of the Mediterranean diet, meaning a focus on unprocessed whole food and plant foods.

I have worked in a wide range of settings and have experience working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and all ages.   Not only do I work with individuals, I consider the context of their families and culture.

While I have broad knowledge, my special interests include food allergies and food intolerances, as well as fussy eating and selective eating.
